The sauce has just a touch of sweet to balance out the salt and fat. You can go with a traditional steamed bun. Or gowild by getting the roasted pork pineapple bun. The crunchy top and added sweetness make for a unique flavor experience that’ll have you going back for more.

Kamboat Bakery is often described as “no-frills” and “unfussy.” AKA no ambiance and bland interior design. If huge fluffy buns is what you seek, head to Golden Steamer. This hole in the wall is famous for its mega fluffy, mega cheap steamed buns that you can get fresh on the spot or frozen for later. On my latest trip into Chinatown the only option left was Chinese sausage. I can’t say the sausage was good. But the bun itself has the perfect amount of sweetness and the perfect hug-the-inside-of-your-mouth texture.
