The Top 3 Taco Spots in NYC According to ChatGPT

ChatGPT is radically transforming how people write. Some say revolutionary. Others say totally destructive.

Essays, blogs posts, and emails can be drafted in the blink of an eye, and the quality isn’t too shabby! But I got to thinking…. is ChatGPT a foodie?!

I asked ChatGPT, “What are the top taco spots in NYC?” and went on a food crawl of the top 3 to see if it got it right.

(Curious about the history of tacos? Get the scoop HERE!)

#3: Tacombi

ChatGPT’s Review:

“With multiple locations across the city, Tacombi offers a vibrant and casual atmosphere reminiscent of a Mexican beachside eatery. They serve a variety of tasty tacos, including classics like al pastor and carnitas, using high-quality ingredients and traditional recipes.”

My Review:

Tacombi is an established taco chain in NYC that serves up authentic flavors of Mexico with a side of laid-back vibes. Each of the 11 locales has an open-air garage feel, and you’ll likely be dining among trendy millennials blowing off steam after a long day at work. You can score solid variety of tacos a la cart in addition to burritos and quesadillas.

We started with the al pastor, which LOOKED quite tasty. Alas… the meat was dry, the pineapple was a bit underripe, and the sparse sprinkle of onion and cilantro couldn’t save the day. We also tried the fried baja fish taco, which I preferred. The cabbage, cilantro, carrot (?!), and onion slaw added a nice freshness into the mix.

Did ChaptGPT get it right?

Tacombi is perfectly average, but certainly not worthy of the title “3rd best taco spot in NYC.”

#2 Taqueria Diana

ChatGPT’s Review

With multiple locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, Taqueria Diana is known for its flavorful tacos. They serve up classics like carnitas, al pastor, and even vegetarian options like grilled cactus.

My Review:

Taqueria Diana is a no frills taco spot that serves up classic street fare for reasonable prices. We’re talking al pastors for .50 a pop! The first time I ever had Taqueria Diana back in 2018, I was blown away. Fresh ingredients. Juicy meat. A HUGE serving of nachos that was legendary. I’ve been back to the 3 different locales, desperately wanting that foodie high once more. Alas, each subsequent visit feel short– including this one.

The meat was fairly juicy and the fixin’s weren’t too shabby, but the tortillas were sadly horrid. They were mega thick and chewy, and tasted like they had been made the day before.

Did ChatGPT get it right?

NOPE.

And the #1 taco spot in NYC according to ChatGPT is…..

Los Tacos #1

ChatGPT’s Review:

Known for their authentic and delicious tacos, Los Tacos No. 1 is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Their Chelsea Market and Times Square locations offer a variety of mouthwatering options.

My Review:

Los Tacos #1 is one of the most popular taco spots in NYC, but is the BEST taco spot in NYC? I’ve frequented the various locales across the city, and I can attest that they make a damn good taco. The meats are juicy and fresh. The tortillas are freshly pressed. If you opt for “con todo”, you get an exquisite balance of onions, cilantro, salsa, and guac. Each taco is simply delicious– the name is literally “The Number One Tacos”, afterall.

Did ChatGPT Get It Right?

I have a hard time saying Los Tacos #1 is the best taco spot in NYC. I simply haven’t been to enough taco spots! However, it is epically delicious and surely makes the top 5.

I’m going to say ChatGPT isn’t going to be replacing the job of foodies…

….Yet
