Doughnuts are a popular sweet treat in Australia. You can snag a classic glazed at a Krispy Kreme or get fancy with an artisanal, small batch, locally sourced, non-GMO number at a local market. Doughnuts are light, not too filling, easy to eat, and a comforting treat that comes with a zing of childhood nostalgia.
Through our adventures in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and surrounding areas, we’ve found some memorable doughnuts that are perfect for every occasion and every budget.
The Best Doughnuts in Brisbane and the Greater Area:
Rebel Donuts: The Best for When You’re Short on Time
Rebel Donuts is located in Harris Farm Markets in the West End; a posh grocery store with beautiful produce, a ridiculous amount of top notch meats and cheeses, and even a grind your own nut butter section. (Pro-Tip: at the cured meats counter they will let you try before you buy!)
Nestled next to the fresh milk bar, you’ll find Rebel Donuts. They serve up freshly made creations ranging from classic jammed filled to salted caramel pretzel. The doughnuts are light and fluffy, and we were pleased with the filling to doughnut ratio. One word of advice, the chocolate topping is quite hard, and eating one in your vehicle will lead to disaster
The locale makes it super convenient to pick one up while grocery shopping. There is a Coles and Woolsworth right next door if you’re a budget grocery shopper, like me.
Dough Ma: The Best Doughnuts for Impressing a Group Without Blowing a Budget
Dough Ma offers a wide range of doughnuts that look impressive and expensive. But a box of 6 will only set you back $18! Your coworkers, friends, and family will ooh and aah if you bring over a box of these babies, guaranteed. Click HERE for the full review!
Doughnut Deluxe: The Best for a #treatyourself moment
These doughnuts are fluffy and sweet with a melt in your mouth gooeyness that is offensively delicious. You can catch Doughnut Deluxe at various markets, including the Brisbane City Markets on Wednesdays and the Milton Markets on Sundays. Doughnut Deluxe serves up the best tasting doughnuts in Brisbane, in my humble opinion.
Paddock Bakery: The Best For a Sit Down Experience
Paddock Bakery has the most delicious baked goods on the Gold Coast. While you can get them to-go, Paddock Bakery has a lovely outdoor seating area that’s perfect for a sit-down, catch-up experience. You can snag incredible cookies, woodfired sourdough, shiny croissants, and some pretty epic doughnuts. We tried the Biscoff Cheesecake doughnut, and it did not disappoint. While the doughnut itself was a touch bready, the cream topping and filling saved the day. It was exquisitely thick with a strong Biscoff and cheesecake flavor, complimenting the doughnut for a delightful mouthfeel and flavor experience. Click HERE for a full review of the cookies!
Wendys: The Best Frugal Find
At Wendy’s, you can get 6 hot cinnamon sugar doughnuts for $6. Warm, sweet, melt-in your mouth….. pretty hard to beat if you ask me!
Krispy Kreme: The Best For When You Just Want a Cheap, Tasty, Classic
The classic glazed doughnut at Krispy Kreme is the king of all doughnuts. At the end of the day, a doughnut is simple: fried sugar and flour. You don’t always need artisanal dark chocolate imported from Brazil to make a dessert special. Krispy Kreme is proof.
The Best Doughnuts in Brisbane for People With Food Allergies
OMG Donuts and G-Free Doughnuts make appearances at markets across the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, and Brisbane. The doughnuts are gluten free and vegan, but they certainly don’t taste like it!
Nodo has three locations in Brisbane, and it bakes up popular gluten free doughnuts. I haven’t tried them, but I hear good things!

Oh yes! I tried Donut King when we were living in Hobart. A solid reliable donut!
