Skagway is an itty bitty town in Southeast, Alaska with a year round population just shy of 1,300 people. It’s home to amazing hikes (which is my MO in port because hiking if free). As well as incredible excursions ranging from dog sledding to helicopter tours (which is NOT my MO because they are the opposite of free.) You’ll also find plenty of souvenir shops and a surprising number of cafes and restaurants for a town that’s so gosh darn small.
Skagway eats will set you back a pretty penny, which makes sense given the fact that most businesses are only open half the year and that supplies are tough and pricey to get. I’ve paid $8 for fried dough, $40 for pizza, and nearly $100 for a couple beers and sandwiches from the Skagway Brewing Co.
But last visit, I tried a new-ish Skagway eats establishment that has wildly delicious food for a relatively fair price: Pepper’s Street Fusion.
The Locale
Pepper’s Street Fusion is part of a new permanent food truck park. As of July 2025, there are only two establishments. Starfire, which serves up Thai food. And Pepper’s Street Fusion, which has Mexican fare. However, I see enormous potential for it to grow into a foodie hub in Skagway. Both spots sit across from each other with plenty of tables in the middle. An ideal spot to kick back if it’s a nice day!
The Menu
The menu is centered around 7 protein options that you can get in the form of tacos, a burrito, or a bowl. There are enough choices to please all types of eaters. But not so many that you question freshness and quality.
Our Food
We opted for the barbacoa burrito. A friend said the burritos could feed a family of 4, so one to share seemed sufficient.
This sucker was thicker than my forearm and utterly loaded. The chili lime rice was nicely seasoned and there was a perfect amount of black beans. I appreciated the fact that there was just enough cheese and sour cream to add flavor and gooeyness, but not so much that it overwhelmed each bite. Pickled onions added crunch and zing. Cilantro gave each bite some freshness. And all these back up dancers still gave the star room to show. The star, of course, being the melt-in-your-mouth barbacoa.
I was shocked at how good this burrito was.
After tax and tip, this bad boy set us back $25 total. Expensive in the grand scheme of burritos. But a solid deal when pitting it against other Skagway eats.
Finding something in Skagway that’s as filling and delicious for $12.50 a person is mission impossible. (Trust me… I’ve looked!) Pepper’s Street Fusion is an excellent addition to the Skagway eats scene, and a must try if you find yourself in this Alaskan town!
