10 Weeks to 10K: Week 3 Rundown

September 21th marks the end of week 3 in my 10 weeks to 10K challenge. And for most of it I was on vacay!

A perk of being in a relationship with an officer on a cruise ship is that I get to sail for free as partner on board. Of course, nothing’s free—it comes at the cost of all the challenges that come with navigating a long distance relationship. I hopped on the Zaandam in Boston, and cruised along to Eastport, Halifax, Sydney, Corner Brook, and Prince Edward Island. We ate good food and made the most of each port despite the abysmal, rainy weather. Go figure a hurricane would have the audacity to hit the North East when I decide to go on a vacation…

It wasn’t all lobster rolls, leisurely reading, and $5 negronis. I consider myself a woman with many skills, but the art of relaxing is one I struggle with. I put in a couple hours of work each day on my computer doing SEO projects and creating content. Plus, I randomly got a check from my health insurance company for $103! I also spent time job hunting.

Reality Check on the Freelance Life Style:

The freedom to create your own schedule comes with the tradeoff of stability. I have enough work booked to cover my costs of living, but not enough to reach my 10K goal. Which means I have to always keep my eyes peeled to new job opportunities while diligently checking my email to be sure I don’t miss anything.

I flew back to good old New York City on the 20th, and managed to get one gig in for the week…

The Event: New York Times Climate Forward Conference

Hours: On the clock 6:30am-6:30pm

My Job: I was general support staff. Throughout the day I was at various locales across the 2 floors to assist with way finding and answering questions. I was stationed at the bird crossword section for a couple hours, which was a thrill.

Thoughts and Feelings: It was a very interesting conference with A list speakers (we’re talking Bill Gates and Al Gore!). While I didn’t get to listen in, it was fun being a part of it.

Total Pre Tax Earnings:

$909

How Much I Spent:

Food Out: $66.88

Groceries: $0 (woo hoo ship food!)

Transport: $85.51

Household Items/Misc: $30

Weekly Cost of Living (rent, health insurance, gym, storage, spotify): $365.44

Total: $547.83

(Note: My flight home from Prince Edward Island was $194, but I bought it prior to my challenge. I also got the flight, and Jeremy covered most of our in-port eats. Hence why my food out spending was only $66.88 despite the lobster rolls…)

Total Saved: $361.17

Which means I’ve saved $3,339.17 in 3 weeks, putting me on track to reach my 10k in 10 weeks goal!
