Bubble tea is all the craze as young adults flock to trendy shops to get milk based teas filled with tapioca pearls for $6. The popular beverage came to the US in 90s with Taiwanese immigration, but it dates back to the early 80s. Tea makers rapidly shook the tea to mix around the flavors, which created bubbles at the top… hence… bubble tea. Tapioca pearls (boba), lychee jelly, and other add-ins started entering the picture by the late 80s, and now you can find a bubble tea shop on just about every street in Taiwan.
While the tasty beverage might set you back a pretty penny in certain parts of the world, you can snag it in Taiwan for 50NTD, which is around $1.50. Who can say no to that?!
