3 Cheap Eats in Playa del Carmen for Less Than $5USD

Playa del Carmen is a lively city just 55km/34mi south of  Cancun. It’s much less touristy that Cancun, way more affordable than Tulum, and the perfect launch point for adventures around Quintana Roo and the Yucatan. Playa del Carmen also has a solid culinary scene with foods to accommodate every taste and every  budget.

Last post, I shared 3 cheap eats in Playa del Carmen for less than 40mxn/$2USD (Click HERE). If you’re willing to be a bit wild and up  your budget to 100mxn/$5USD, I’ve got some tasty ideas…

Here are 3 cheap eats in Playa del Carmen for less than 100mxn

1. A spicy sausage from a street vendor: 80mxn/$4usd

spicy sausage in playa del carmen

On the corner of 10th avenue  and 8th street, you’ll find a street food stall serving up epic sausages for just 80mxn. There are 3 things that make this sausage special. One: they cut the sausage In half, which makes all the ingredients fit nicely in the bread for the perfect bites. Two: the spicy sausage has the perfect amount of slow burn heat that stimulates the taste buds without totally scorching your palette. Three: the bun is perfectly toasted and flattened so you never wind up with a mouth full of dry bread.

It’s perhaps my favorite cheap eat of Playa del Carmen, and  you won’t be disappointed.

2. Roti from Roti de Playa: 80mxn

Roti de Playa

Finding cheap eats in Playa del Carmen that are heavy on the vegetable front is easier said than done. So  when we stumbled upon Roti de Playa, a true hidden gem of Playa del Carmen, I was thrilled to see plenty of vegetable filling options. For just 80mxn, you can pick 4 fillings for your roti. Options include spinach, mushrooms, pumpkin, chickpeas, as well as various meats.

Plus, the woman who owns Roti de Playa is friendly and welcoming. I wanted to support her business, and would certainly  recommend that you do to!

3. Belcarse Cake from Dulce Antojo: 84mxn

Dulce Antojo

I have no idea what belcarse cake is, and apparently Google doesn’t either. But Dulce Antojo, a Playa del Carmen cake shop, does. And WHOA BABY is it something special. It has thin layers of cake,  thicker layers of caramel, and even thicker layers of a mousse/cream/cheesecake type filling. It’s not overly sweet, and the textures make for a lovely mouth feel.

It was so delicious that it had me wondering where this concoction had been all my life while instilling the soul-crushing thought that I might never have it again.

Compared to other baked treats in Mexico, 84mxn is pretty freakin’ steep. But it’s so delicious. Which is why it deserves a spot on this cheap eats of Playa del Carmen list.

Wrapping Things Up…

100mxn can get you quite a lot… you just need to know where to look. These 3 cheap eats in Playa del Carmen will leave you happy and satisfied
