Say Cheese!: A Williamsburg Pizza Crawl

Williamsburg is a trendy Brooklyn neighborhood that’s peppered with eclectic cafes, well curated vintage stores, and young people rocking the styles of tomorrow. It’s also home to some of the best restaurants in New York.

While you could easily drop $100 on a meal at the likes of K’Far and Lilia, there are plenty of cheap eats to be had. My favorite type of cheap eat? Pizza of course!

I took the streets with my friend to look for some of the best slices the neighborhood has to offer.

Let’s dive into a Williamsburg pizza crawl!

Stop 1: L’Industrie Pizza

L’Industrie Pizza has grown a cult following over the years. The spot specializes in blending the flavors and techniques from Italy with those of New York to create elevated slices that still taste like home. Hungry pizza loving patrons will line up for over an hour to snag a slice. Lucky for us, we were able to waltz right in at 1:30pm on a Monday– the perfect way to start the Williamsburg pizza crawl!

Pro-Tip: to avoid lines at popular spots in NYC, don’t go on the weekend!

The Crust: Perfecto! The crust is exceptional. It has a chewy consistency with that oh-so-delectable blistered flavor

The Toppings: Light, fresh, and bright. You can tell they only source from the best of the best.

The Prices: The pepperoni slice was $4.50 and the Margherita was $3.50. Reasonable given how trendy it is!

The Verdict: Super tasty pizza! Would I wait in a 50 person deep line? Nope! But if I was in the neighborhood and there was no wait, I’d grab slices again!

Stop 2: Leo

Leo is a cozy Italian spot that has a small store front pumping out pizza by the slice. Their specialty is sourdough, and they use it for their pizza crusts. The result? A well textured crust with a distinct twang you won’t find anywhere else.

The Crust: If you love sourdough, you’ll go gaga over Leos. Personally, I prefer less twangy za.

The Toppings: There wasn’t too much cheese and the sauce had a fresh acidic flavor that wasn’t overwhelming. I appreciated the parmesan on top, but I could have done with just a touch more basil.

Price: The margherita was $4. Reasonable, but wouldn’t pay for it again.

The Verdict: Solid slice for sourdough lovers! While I could pass on the pizza, I would go back to the restaurant to try their other dishes.

Stop 3: Best Pizza

Best Pizza is a hole in the wall spot in Williamsburg that has laid-back, slightly grungy vibes. It’s revered as some of the best no-frills pizza in the area, and the final stop on our Williamsburg pizza crawl.

All our slices thus far were the familiar triangle. But the grandma slice was calling our name…. and I’m glad we answered! (Curious about what a grandma slice it? Click HERE!) The crust was crunchy, yet pillowy, and must be something special in that sauce. It’s rich and hearty with the perfect zing of acidity to compliment the warm gooey cheese.

The classic cheese slice didn’t disappoint either. Thin, just-chewy-enough crust.  A nice balance of sauce to cheese. VERY reasonable price. What more could you ask for?

The Crust: Grandma crust was perfection. Classic crust was perfectly fine.

The Toppings: Obsessed with the sauce!

The Price: The cheese slice was a cool $3.15 and the grandma was $4.75. Not to shabby!

The Verdict: Best Pizza is a local institution for a reason. The cheese slice has a great price, and average flavor. The grandma slice was the best slice of the entire Williamsburg pizza crawl.

This Williamsburg pizza craw was a total success!

Each slice was tasty, and it was $10pp (Pre tax and tip.)
