Thought you could only use a hotel iron for your clothes? Think again! This handy tool is the perfect appliance to take your hotel room eating up a notch, making budget dining on the road a bit tastier. Quesadillas, paninis, and grilled PB and banana are all possibilities, but I tested out this hotel hack with one of my favorites: grilled cheese.
Step-by-Step Guide to a Tasty iron grilled cheese
Step One:
Assemble the sandwich and heat up the iron.
Step Two:
Put aluminum foil on top of the sandwich. Failure to complete this step will result in the bread getting stuck on the iron, which would be especially unfortunate if you wish to iron your evening ensemble later.
My iron grilled cheese experiment was spontaneous, and I didn’t have aluminum foil. But I did have a bar of Lindt chocolate. I unwrapped the chocolate, and the aluminum wrapping worked perfectly! Plus, it smelled like chocolate 🙂
Step Three:
Iron out that sandwich. Simply press the iron down on the foil topped grilled cheese and slide it back and forth. After 2 minutes or so, flip the sandwich over and repeat. Check in to be sure the bread isn’t sticking to the foil. If it is, the iron might be too hot or you are keeping the iron in one spot for too long.
Step Four:
Dig in! I didn’t have the patience to iron long enough to get the cheese to that point of gooey melting deliciousness, but I was still very pleased! Not to mention, it was only $1!
It will certainly be the first of many iron-pressed sandwiches to come. Be sure to drop it in the comments if you give this iron grilled cheese a go!
